Ice hockey enthusiasts can play for free on an artificial ice rink in Kulturpark during the two weeks of the championship. The volunteers were introduced as well.

KOSICE – Kévin Hecquefeuille scored at 0:46 of overtime to give France a 2-1 victory over Belarus and a place in the Qualification Round. Belarus must now fight for a place at the top level of the 2012 IIHF World Championship in the Relegation Round.
With two wins to smile about, and a place in the Qualification Round already locked up prior to todays game against Sweden, the guessing is that things are much, much more pleasant for USA Hockey officials than they were one year ago.

KOSICE – The name Koivu is famous in hockey because of Saku and his younger brother, Mikko, but there is another player with that surname playing at the World Championship this year – for Norway.
KOSICE – There is a breed of athlete that holds a particularly special appeal for anyone over the age of about 40. That’s the athlete who, despite advancing years, can still hang in there with the kids. It makes all of us older guys still feel like we have a few good games left in us.
KOSICE – Ryan Gardner had two goals and an assist, and linemate Ivo Rüthemann had a goal and two assists to lead Switzerland to a 4-1 win over Belarus at the Steel Arena. The win gives Switzerland five points in the Group B standings and assures the team a spot in the Qualification Round. Canada remains on top with six points, and France has a single point from its two games. Belarus is winless in two games.
KOSICE – Jeff Skinner led Canada with two goals, with the second one coming on a third period penalty shot, to a 9-1 win over France. Skinner, who leads the team in scoring with five points, also added one assist. Its only been a couple of games, but the players feel that things are coming together nicely.
Fans may now bring cameras into the two Championship venues – the Bratislava Orange Arena and the Košice Steel Arena. The Organizing Committee after consultation with the International Ice Hockey Federation has decided in favour of spectators.
The gates to both arenas – the Orange Arena in Bratislava and the Steel Arena in Košice - open 1.5 hours before the start of 2011 IIHF World Championship games (29/04 - 15/05/2011). Visitors are searched by stewards in the entrance area in front of the arena.
Visitors and citizens of the city of Košice are surprised by changing appearance of the railway station. Parts of entrance hall and especially the exit hall are decorated with large banners with the theme of Ice Hockey World Championship.
Fans, who will need to withdraw cash can do so in ATMs near the Steel Arena. They are mounted in a special container.
A commemorative plaque dedicated to Košice native and noteworthy Czechoslovak hockey player Ladislav Troják was officially unveiled on the facade of the Košice Steel Arena stadium today. Ladislav Troják is to be inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hall of Fame during this years World Championship in Slovakia.
A stellar line-up of the Czechoslovak and Slovak sport and Olympics met in Bratislava to launch a book entitled "Ice hockey stamp collecting”.
Slovak national hockey team met yesterday afternoon in Košice. The team under the leadership of the Canadian coach Glen Hanlon is playing preparatory matches with Sweden in the Steel Arena tomorrow and on Friday at 5.00 PM. The matches are part of the preparation for the forthcoming world championship.
Košice certainly is the capital of hockey. We have master hattrick and a great fan background. Yesterday, before the preparatory match, the Mayor welcomed the national hockey team in the historical Town Hall in Košice. And the team even got a cake!
Otto Brixi, representative of the city of Košice for the organization of World Ice Hockey Championship informed about several .organizational matters related to the ice hockey championship. There will be 8 Park & Ride facilities for cars and 3 for buses in the vicinity of major shopping centers during the World Championship.
