The City of Košice will be the seat of the sixth consulate from next year. Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Slovakia, Mr. Indulis Berzinš has introduced a new candidate for Honorary Consul to František Knapík today(10/12/2010) . It is Mr. Miroslav Repka, who should perform his office in the seat of the consulate in the Krmanova Street 1 after its opening on January 1, 2011.
At the meeting on the premises of the Historical Town Hall, Mayor František Knapík appreciated Latvias interest in the City of Košice, which has been also presented as a future European Capital of Culture for 2013. During his first visit to the city Ambassador highlighted a pleasant and festive atmosphere of Christmas events in Košice. He welcomed the possibility of co-operation in the field of trade and culture, which depends very much on the necessary infrastructure: "Trade depends on transport options and it is the same for tourism and leisure activities, too."

In the current year there were opened more honorary consulates in Košice. The Republic of Turkey had introduced its representative in January 2010. The Russian Federation did the same in a month. Also Consul General of the Republic of Hungary and Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Belgium and Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Spain perform their functions in the City of Košice.
Mayor has officially received 34 ambassadors accredited in the Slovak Republic in the Historical Town Hall for the past four years. The city was visited by more than 170 foreign delegations.
