Today ( 23/02/2010 ) the members of the City Council of Košice have approved to award the title of "Honorary Citizen of the City of Košice" to a world famous sculptor under stage name Gyula Kosice for making important contribution to the culture development and promotion of the City of Košice in the world.
Gyula Kosice is a world famous sculptor (born as Ferdinand Fallik in Košice on 26/4/1924). When he was four, his parents emigrated with him to Argentina. He studied drawing and modelling at the Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Argentina. He uses his stage name which comes from the name of his birthplace. Academic sculptor Gyula Kosice has made significant contributions to the culture development and promotion of his hometown Košice through his art across the world.
At the same time they have approved to award the Prize of the City of Košice to ten individuals and three teams. The highest urban award will be given annually by the Mayor of the City on the occasion of the Day of the City of Košice on May 7th.
