Calvinist church

Of all churches in Košice, it has the most adventurous past. During the reformation, the City of Košice mostly adopted Luther’s faith, Nevertheless, those "protesting" were intolerant and exerted a hard-line approach especially to Calvinists. They did not want to give them to use any of the confiscated catholic churches! And so the catholic Palatine, a representative of the catholic but tolerant of Habsburg royal family, reserved the place for the Calvinist church, rectory and school. After finishing the construction of this building, it was first taken by the army, then left empty for a long time, then given to Ursulines, again taken by the army and so on and on. Finally, the Calvinists were given a compensatory piece of land outside the city walls. They built a temporary wooden object there. They sold the rest of the lot and later, when the city fortification lost its meaning as the danger of invasions by Turks passed, they bought the old army store-house built inside the city walls on the Hrnčiarska street (Potters’ street).
In 1805 - 1811, this building was rebuilt to a church. It was given a slender spire. The church interior is very simple, only the dishes of worship were brought here from the original wooden church. The only presentable piece is the pulpit. In the exterior, the western front of the church with 48 m high slender spire presents a nice view from the Main street.
