The delegation of the twin city Niš in Serbia was received by Mayor of the City of Košice František Knapík on the premises of the Historical Town Hall on December 10th, 2009. His Serbian colleague, Mayor Miloš Simonovič, Stela Jovanovič and Dragana Stovanovič from the Mayor´s Office of the City of Niš were on a business trip in Košice.
They met a project team for the European Capital of Culture 2013; on the premises of the City Magistrate´s Office, they took part on the presentations about investments in our city, then about the development zones in Košice and EU funding projects, one of the discussion topics was also cross - border cooperation of the local governments; later they visited the city centre breathing with Christmas atmosphere.
During the reception in the Historical Town Hall Mayor of Niš was interested in the project European Capital of Culture 2013 and discussing the concrete possibilities for cooperation in the cultural field as Niš will prepare the celebration of the 1700th anniversary of signing of the Edict of Milan. In 313 it had been signed by the Roman emperor Constantine the Great who was born in Niš. The Edict of Milan granted all people freedom to worship whatever deity they pleased and it was in fact equalizing the Christianity with the Roman state cult.
During the discussion František Knapík and Miloš Simonovič also paid attention to the topics such as organization of a local government organization, urban and municipal economy or financing and gaining external sources from EU funds for significant investments, for example in infrastructure.
Mayor František Knapík appreciated an active participation of the representatives of the Local TV from the City of Niš on the annual International Festival of Local Televisions „Golden Beggar" in Košice.
